Repeal the NFA: Sign the Petition!

ByAaron C.

January 29, 2017

The National Firearm Act has been around since 1934 and it imposed a $200 tax on citizens to own firearms of certain lengths (Shotguns/Rifles), suppressors (silencers), and full-auto firearms and classify these weapons as Class III Weapons. That was 1934…what about today? Why not Repeal the NFA? Sign the Petition to repeal the NFA. With a very Pro-2nd Amendment Administration and Pro-2nd Amendment Congress, why not get it changed! We need 100,000 signatures to get it to the Presidents Desk! Let’s make it happen folks! Have you bought a Class III Weapon? If you haven’t, here is the rundown as of right now:

  1. You find that perfect suppressor, pay for the suppressor, pay a $200 tax on top of any other fees the gun shops charge to use a machine to get your finger prints taken and take a photo.
  2. You wait almost 9-11 months to get your suppressor.
  3. You finally get that tax stamp back and then you are able to go out and shoot it.

Why should it take this long to get a suppressor (silencer) when it is being used to help protect the hearing of myself and others at the range. There is only a total of about 10 people going through the paperwork process for Class III Weapons. I want the person who went through Hilary Clinton’s 65,000 emails in only a few days to review these requests.

If you have never shot a suppressor, you really are missing out. It’s nice going to the range without having hearing protection. Introduced in October 2015, the Hearing Protection Act (H.R. 367 – 115th Congress) is now in Congress. This bill states:

This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to: (1) eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers, and (2) treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act with respect to such silencer. Any person who pays a transfer tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015, may receive a refund of such tax.

The bill amends the federal criminal code to preempt state or local laws that tax or regulate firearm silencers.

This bill would make it legal for anyone to own a suppressor with the proper background check. Honestly, if I have been deemed confident to be able to carry a concealed handgun, then it should be legal for me to own a suppressor in the same fashion without registering it or paying the $200 tax fee.

On top of the Hearing Protection Act, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI 5th District) introduced in January 2017, the ATF Elimination Act. This bill states:

Transfers ATF functions relating to the investigation and enforcement of: (1) criminal and regulatory violations of the federal firearms, explosives, and arson laws, and the investigation of violent crime and domestic terrorism to the Attorney General, who shall delegate them to the FBI; and (2) criminal and regulatory violations of the federal alcohol and tobacco smuggling laws to the Attorney General, who shall delegate them to the DEA.

It is up to US to repeal the NFA and take back our freedoms and rights of being able to shoot responsibly and safely. Now, I know there are a lot of people out there that say, “think of the children!” Well, to be honest, it isn’t the good guys with guns that are causing the problems. We are the ones that are law-abiding citizens, it’s the criminals that do not follow the laws. Why punish the good guys? Contact your Congressman/woman and then your Senators, and tell them to support the Hearing Protection Act and the ATF Elimination Act! Sign the petition and take a stand! It is up to us…it is our time! Sign today!

I was born and raised in NC and I have grown up around firearms with shooting BB guns at the age of around 3-4. I serve my county as a Paramedic and work part-time at my local gun shop. I have been writing for Epic Tactical since May 2016 and have been doing firearm reviews on YouTube for about the same amount of time. My enthusiasm is geared towards the medical side, yet I am always there to help out new shooters find that perfect gun and work on their technique. My wife usually accompanies me to the gun range and she is always there to help female shooters with their techniques and to answer questions.
